During my time in Singapore I got my first invitation to attend a fashion party; Harper Bazaar's Asia New Generation event no less. I was obviously beyond hyped up about this and had to carefully consider an outfit that was, excuse my language, completely on fleek. It had to exude the right amount of sophistication, professionalism (as it was still a job gig) and knowledge of current fashion trends. I therefore opted for something that would be suitable for the hot weather but still cover up; white trumpet trousers and a grey top with my favourite pop of colour; yellow handbag. Since I was all dressed up in my finest I decided to create a bit of a fashion editorial of it with my mom who just LOVES photographing me with all my demands and uncomfortability in front of the camera. Nevertheless I had fun styling it and thought the photos turned out quite cute so I decided to share them with you! The event was a complete success and I had an amazing time (shout out to Siiri for pushing me; there's so much I wouldn't have done if you weren't there to encourage me!). If you're interested in the article I wrote about the actual event and designers, head on over to Popspoken in the next few days, or check a little piece I wrote for uni about Singapore's identity as a fashion capital here. Hope you're all chasing your dreams!
This compilation of outfits is sort of
a diary of how my style evolves and changes during the first winter months, for me to
see what affects the way I dress and for you to see which
combinations of clothes I thought would be suitable for the day. I
think it's interesting to see how I have different periods where I
favour a couple of colours over others, and I wear those almost
exclusively. Also a lot of the time I have very girly periods with
floral prints and dresses, which makes this month an interesting and
notable exception. This month it seems to be a combination of grey
and browns, as those appear in my shoes, bag, coat etc. Might have
something to do with the overall gloominess of the month, but
something just drove me to those colours daily like a moth to a
flame. I will make an effort of capturing more looks during the month
in the future as this obviously only shows the outfits that I thought
looked somewhat decent. I might even make this into a monthly series
if I feel like it. There are a couple of university pieces that I
would like to share with you including an interview with a fashion PR
consultant and a piece about the emergence of 60s youth subcultures
and their effect on fashion. If you people would be interested in
seeing those do let me know! Also if you couldn't care less and you'd
rather see me ramble on about my uninteresting life, I would also
like to have knowledge of that. I would appreciate any feedback at
all. So without further ado, here are some of my outfit ensembles of
the month! Stay cool people.

The fashion obsessed freak that I am, I
decided to book tickets for a catwalk show at the London Fashion
Weekend that happened straight after the real fashion week for actual
fashionistas. Me and my friend Laura planned our outfits days in
advance, trying on different combinations that would say ”I know
about currents trends and I flaunt them with just the right amount of
individuality”, a process that any self respectable fashionista
goes through before important events as such. When the outfits were
perfected to the right standard, we put on our highest heels so that
we coud demonstrate how much we're willing to suffer for fashion, and
promenaded to the event. I was happy with comments like ”hello
princess”, whilst Laura had various people adoring her new coat.
This is how we knew they were successful outfits, and that the
fashion world were definitely ready for our fabulous presence. On top
of the bunch of free stuff we got, we had the chance to feel the
excitement of the mainly girl crowd, all dressed in their best, to
feel like we were a part of something bigger. The room was full of
young, passionate and driven girls and boys and it was an honour to
be a part of that atmosphere. We were the respected fashion crowd,
the new generation of fashion personalities. It was the best feeling,
and definitely exceeded all of my expectations. We had the pleasure
of seeing the Fyodor Golan show, which had already been showed at the
real fashion week to fashion editors and other influential people.
Sitting on that front row with our legs crossed, eyeing at the models
up and down, not being able to keep an unwavering facial expression
like we are supposed to, I knew that this was the place we were meant
to be. The show was full of Lady Gaga-esque shoes, colourful and
innovative prints and oversized midi skirts in primary colours. An
absolute delight to watch. I know I will be back again London fashion
week, even if it is not as an invited guest. So that you can also
experience the excitement of the event I have added some pictures I
took at the show below. Enjoy and keep chasing your dreams!
Reason #1 for being late: trains always take longer than I would think
Everyone knows me the best for being a
colossal failure at life. I am known to lose things, be late and
generally fail at important yet simple tasks of life. A good example
of this is I just happened to be in Greece when the deadline for
university hall payments was due, resulting in me not getting a place
there, and me realising this two months later. What they don't know
is that it's not something that I strive for or want to happen, it
just does. I can't explain it, but I feel like there is some kind of
universal magnetism in me that makes the bad things happen to me. How
is it that everytime I have somewhere important to be, the alarm just
doesn't go off, I'm waiting for my new phone to arrive and am
therefore late and not contactable? There's no scientific explanation
I can come up with except that I am born with a screw-up gene. If I
wasn't constantly forgetting about things and being late, I wouldn't
be me. It's gone so far that screwing up is now actually called
puling a Jennie. Forgot to put your alarm on to wake up for school?
You pulled a Jennie. Late to meet your friends by two hours without
notice, but you still have an excuse? You pulled a Jennie. I wish I
could stop pulling Jennie's but being the creator, I am bound to have
a couple screw ups here and there. The thing is that when I actually
am early, or have not lost anything for a while, nobody seems to
notice. It is so much easier to see when I make the mistake. ”Well,
what else is new Jennie?”. I bet others get a lot of enjoyment from
seeing me do these things over and over again, it's sort of like the
real life shenanigans of a female Mr. Bean. It's sort of a comedy
show that I am hosting unwillingly, but am still known for. Imagine
if I started a new show huh? If Mr. Bean ever stars in another movie,
trying to act like a normal being, you will always see him as that
pathetic excuse of a person. He will never be able to pull off
another perhaps more serious role in his life. Poor Mr. Bean.
Reason #2 for being late: the selfie has to be taken before your face gets all worn out during the day, am i right?
As some of you may or may not know, London's hectic fashion week was on the last week of February. I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of attending two catwalk shows during that week. Not because my take on trends as a blogger is valued by anyone (as much as I hope it would be), but because I intern at a fashion PR company. Not that I'm not just as grateful to be able to work there, but just so we're clear about where I stand. My actual job at fashion week was nothing special, just the regular intern kind of stuff, but I did feel like I was given an enormous amount of trust by my employers just to be able to attend the event. I felt very respected and important because of that, and had a huge need to impress them to show my utter gratitude. I believe organising and working behind-the-scenes of a show is a very different kind of experience than just coming to watch it. The behind-the-scenes is the part that I enjoy the most, as you get to see all the hassle and preparation that goes on backstage, and how much time and effort goes into the final event. Theres models, photographers, PR personnel, the designers, make up and hair artists and press and co-ordinating all those people to make sure the show runs seamlessly is harder than you might imagine. Once you throw in the editors, stylists and maybe even celebrities who come to watch the show it becomes quite the hotpot of all the important fashion people.
It is humbling to see everyone supporting that one designer with their time, and how much effort the people working there put into making them feel the most welcomed into the fashion world. It can be hard to fit a show into the schedule of busy editor-in-chiefs who come from all over the world, let alone get it to stand out from the impressive lot of shows they see just during one day. This is where PR people try to help the designer as much as they can, by getting as many press people, photographers and bloggers to come, and arranging the best location and time slot. The best part is when you notice how all those things you have done during the past couple of weeks amount to what is a great turn out and a fantastic show. During the weeks leading up to fashion week, us interns got the invitations ready to be delivered, ran around London personally handing them out as well as some other errands that needed to be taken care of. After the show, we checked all twitter and instagram posts and compiled them into slideshows to be sent out to the designers, so they can see how successful their show was. Overall it was a very rewarding experience which i learned a lot from, and came to the conclusion that this definitely is the industry I want to work in.

Miroslava Duma
Miroslava Duma is the style icon I am the most happy about discovering; her style represents everything a good taste in clothes means to me. It is classic and sophisticated yet trendy and she always looks well put together and representable. Everything from her immaculately cut hair, quirky sunglasses and muted colours of choice is perfect. I love the way she is not afraid to take small risks by combining risky colours like muted orange and maroon. She is also a huge fan of Valentino, my favourite clothing brand since I was about 12 years old.
Julia Sarr-Jamois
Since recently discovering Julia Sarr-Jamois from one i-D shoot that I adored, I have fallen in love with her intrinsic cool factor. She is a lover of colourful print on print combinations and wacky sunglasses and she mixes and matches these with impeccable style. She can wear baby pink fluffy heels that look like something Barbie could have worn without a hint of mockery, and look fabulous. If I was ever as brave as her, these are exactly the kinds of clothes I would be wearing.
Hanneli Mustaparta
Me being drawn to Hanneli Mustaparta might be the result of me being biased towards any finns out in the world, but I can't deny my love for her vibe. She somehow manages to look casual, down to earth and effortless in any high fashion piece. I can definitely see her finnish roots in the way she wears stripes with matching accessories, a combination Marimekko favours, but her time abroad has definitely refined her style to its current level.
Olivia Palermo
Olivia Palermo has for long been an idol of mine, in fact she is one of the first fashion icons I remember referencing. She surfs on all the latest fashion waves, as can be seen from her Burberry cape that got sold out almost instantly, but that she somehow managed to snatch up. She is definitely quite minimalistic and classy, but likes to experiment with little pops of colour and interesting accessories.
Leandra Medine
Leandra Medine is one of the funniest and realest humans I know, and after reading her autobiography I completely fell in love with everything about her. Her personality might be the biggest reason for me to have fallen in love with her style, be what it may, but I have started to adopt her non-serious outlook on fashion and have started to just play around with different things and have fun with it.
Kristina Bazan
I feel like Kristina Bazan's style is the most luxurious and glamorous out of all these, seen from her love for diamond jewellery and high end brands such as Dolce & Gabbana. However I do feel like she styles her pieces to a very high standard and the end result is always pleasing to the eye. She has her own take on luxury, and likes to mix expensive with casual.

For the christmas holidays I flew off to Finland for a three week holiday in the winter wonderland. I spent a few days in my hometown Espoo before heading down to a seaside town Hanko where we have a little holiday house. Since my family only arrived on Christmas Eve, I had plenty of time for catching up with my grandparents and cousins and it was lovely having the house for just me and my best friend for a few days. After my family arrived, my holiday consisted of lots of failed attempts at playing Charades, long walks along the beach, thrift shop runs, cafe visits and catching up on finnish TV comedy gems like Posse and Putous. It was a very traditional holiday full of doing things of absolutely no importance except for spending time with relatives. I even managed to build a snowman! It was good to have a little break from the student life and have a fridge full of delicacies for a change; everything from the proper heating system to the tidy house felt so luxurious! Overall it was a very satisfying holiday season, but it was good to come back to London. I mostly missed going to uni and the work we would have to do, as well as shops not closing at 1pm (I mean seriously Finland!? who even wakes up at that time). I've added some photos down below from my time in Finland as well as pre-Christmas gitters from London.
See ya Finland!
Every year during fashion week brands bring out their new collections that are to be worn in half a years time, giving us enough time to muse over the diversity of different trends and figure out what we like and dislike. So now that it's finally time for these clothes to arrive to high street shops and spring campaigns to come out, I and the rest of the general pubic can finally start rocking these looks. I have therefore decided to create a little summary of my 10 favourite trends from the collections this year as a guide to what to wear when I get stuck, and who knows, maybe it might give you some guidance as well!
1. Boxy Tumpet sleeves
1. Boxy Tumpet sleeves

I still can't get over the normcore trend that dominated 2014, especially the slouchy, oversized tees with bozy sleeves. This worn with a pair of mini shorts and heels that especially A Detacher nailed would look great during the summertime.
2. Sporty chic
This is a trend that's been around for what feels like ages but I've personally never been too hyped about it. However after seeing ADEAM's and Akris' exuberant creations I quickly changed my mind. I'd love to rock this look with fruity colours and a sleek hair updo.
3. Indian hippie
Alberta ferretti is among my favourite designers at the moment (given my bias towards all italian designers) and the fact that he so wholeheartedly embraced the native american suede look made me appreciate his collection so much more. Brown suede was used in other collections but to a lesser extent, like in this cowboy like ensemble by Prada.
4. Art or fashion
From this season I am probably the most intimated yet intrigued by this trend. Antonia Marras had some wonderful artsy prints and embellishments going on in his collection and I hope that one day I'll have the courage to wear the likes of them.
5. A-line everything
Since about a year ago I've been absolutely obsessed with Delpozo's 60's retro vibes, clean cuts and modernity. This season they continued this and took their love for A-lines to another season and I have to say I'm still quite smitten; the mini dresses, the top with a hem and the midi skirts, what's not to love?
6. Dress over t-shirt combo
I am so glad that Au Jour Le Jour brought back this cute 90s trend (that I would have worn as a 11 year old) and made it chic again with a strappy patterned dress and a loose tee combo; I can't wait to try this one out.
7. Asymmetric
The asymmetric trend was among the most reoccurring and clear trends of SS 2015 and Opening Ceremony was a proud ambassador of that. The wraparound dresses with an asymmetric form were my absolute favourites among with Christopher Kane's zig zag cut outs on various dresses.
8. Orange
Orange was all over the runways during the last fashion week, namely Giulietta, who made a safety vest orange look refined on a cocktail ensemble with a black and white sequins as well as Roksanda with a more subdued take on the neckline of a geometric patterned dress.
9. Glamour peasant
Isabel Marant's collection was one that caught my attention with its sacks of wheat adorned with diamonds and ropes. Her mini dresses didn't look the least bit cheap with her innovative design skills shining through. Who would have thought that a bag like, unfinished dress tied around the waist with a rope could look undeniably fresh and trendy?
10. Blue cotton shirt
This trend was probably my personal favourite out of all, and Jonathan Saunders did a wonderful job at spread heading it around fashion week. Previously I've been obsessing over white cotton shirts but when the hue changes to blue I feel like there are endless possibilities to make it a new and interesting look: just take Valentino for example, pairing the shirt with an ethnic and folkloric midi skirt.
